The 2010 NFL season got underway in America at the weekend with a win for the owners of Manchester United (the Glazers) against the owner of Aston Villa (Randy Lerner) when the Glazers’ Tampa Bay Bucs beat Lerner’s Cleveland Browns 17-14 in Florida.
But the game was played amid concerns about lack of ticket sales by the Bucs. In fact the game was the first Bucs fixture since October 1997 to be “blacked out” on TV; blackouts happen when games aren’t sold out, meaning the game isn’t on TV in the hope that more people will come to the stadium.

In other Premier League-related action, the St Louis Rams of Stan Kroenke went down 13-17 to the Arizona Cardinals in their opener.
The reigning SuperBowl champs, the New Orleans Saints, began with a 14-9 win over the Minnesota Vikings.
