Caroline Wozniacki is within touching distance of clinching the world No.1 women’s tennis ranking after winning the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo last week.
As revealed first by sporting intelligence, the Dane merely has to reach the quarter-finals or better in this week’s China Open in Beijing to surpass Serena Williams at the top of the game. Should Wozniacki achieve that feat, she will become the first Danish tennis player to be ranked No.1 in the world. Her rise to the top of the game has already prompted fresh debate about the way the women’s rankings are calculated in comparison to the men’s tour.
