The former England striker Robbie Fowler, now playing with Perth Glory in the Australian A-League, has capitalised on the Wayne Rooney situation at Manchester United to have a laugh Down Under.
Returning to his club after a break in England, he told the Glory’s official website he’d known for some time Rooney was leaving United – and the player could move to Perth. “The signs were good. I was really pleased with the chat we had and we’ll see where it takes us,” Fowler told the club’s website. “He’s very, very interested, yeah, so watch this space . . . but I sold Perth to him and told him what a lovely place it is.”
Fowler also repeated the claim at the end of a TV interview. And in a sign that the Rooney saga has massive world interest, even the story of Fowler’s prank has gone global.
Elsewhere today, Ian Holloway’s head almost exploded (see video below) when speaking about Rooney, while this cartoon depiction of how the scenario might play out sees Rooney jilting Jose Mourinho at the altar to return to the arms of Sir Alex Ferguson.
