When Arsenal host Tottenham on Saturday lunchtime in the Premier League, the game will feature the two sides who have the most head-to-head draws in the League’s 18-and-a-bit-year-history.
The north London pair have played 36 times in the 18 completed seasons, with 16 draws – or 44.44 per cent. Seven of the draws have come in the 18 games on Arsenal turf and nine at White Hart Lane.
No other pairing in Premier League history have played out as many as 16 League draws, although Aston Villa’s 15 draws with West Ham in 31 Premier League meetings means that pair have drawn a higher percentage of their games (48.39 per cent).
The “top” eight pairings in terms of absolute number of draws are in the table below; Villa feature in four of the eight pairings, with Tottenham and Everton in there three times each.
The highest percentage of draws between two teams who met over a number of years was between Everton and Leicester, who drew 11 of their 16 Premier League games (68.75 per cent).
