So the battlefield of Twitter proved too much for Darron Gibson (reported here in Belfast among other places) but the race for tweeting supremacy continues apace between a group of other Manchester United footballers, and in turn between them and Piers Morgan.
As our updated chart shows (below) Rio Ferdinand continues to extend his lead over Morgan, and in the past six days has stretched that not just in real terms but also in the rate of growth, which is the most significant performance indicator. Ferdinand has increase his followers by 5.58 per cent in six days while Morgan has managed only a 4.19 per cent increase.
The most impressive growth in followers has been achieved by Twitter newcomer Wayne Rooney, who has gone from zero to more than 200,000 followers in three days, overtaking team-mate Michael Owen in the process.
Sportingintelligence’s earlier story on this hugely important social networking development is here.
