Scotland’s manager Craig Levein today became the second high-profile Scottish manager in recent weeks to pass his apparently sincere good wishes to England for this summer’s World Cup. As sportingintelligence reported last month, Birmingham’s manager, Alex McLeish, a former Scotland manager, said he would “love it” if England lifted the trophy.
Now Levein, while tipping Brazil to win the tournament, says he would like to see England do well. “The way I look at it, Scotland aren’t in it and I hope England do well,” he said. “They are our nearest neighbours and I hope they do well.
“In my professional opinion, I don’t think they will win the competition. Brazil, in my eyes, are strong favourites to win. We have a laugh, tongue in cheek, about the situation with England and Scotland but I worked down there and I’ve got friends there. I hope they do very well but, in my opinion, Brazil will win.”
