West Ham have their troubles to spare, gazing up from the bottom of the Premier League to see which lucky club is going to poop on them next, fearing that they’ll be in the dreaded basement place by Christmas and generally fretting about how soon Avram Grant’s taxi will take to arrive.
And then they check the fixture list. And see it’s Blackburn next. And oh how they grin.
From no other club in the Premier League era have West Ham taken more points than they have from Blackburn: 44 points thanks to 13 wins, five draws and eight defeats.
And in the Hammers’ current spell in the top division, since 2005, that record is won six, drawn four and lost just one, for a total of 21 points from 11 games, or just under two per game.
West Ham’s full record during their current spell is in the table below. Fulham and Wigan have been about as generous as Blackburn in recent times. Tottenham have been not too stingy, but not as generous as they used to be. Spurs as the second-most generous team to West Ham overall in the PL era, handing the Hammers 36 points.
Blackburn’s sole win over West Ham in recent times was on 10 December 2005, when Blackburn won 3-2 at Ewood Park, after West Ham had been 1-0 up at half time.
